I remember being totally shocked when a friend of mine who worked in the produce industry said that fruits and vegetables are sometimes soaked in a chemical (sulphites) to make them look fresh.

Sulphites are a group of chemical agents added to food, beer and wine that prevent bacterial growth. 10 percent of all consumers have a immediate reaction to  sulphites. Many have minor irritations, however asthmatics and those who are sensitive to the irritant effect of sulfites can have severe reactions.

My first thought was yes the food does not show spoilage but: what about the nutritional value; what about the side effects of the sulphites.

In my humble opinion it seems like all new foods are being developed from a money making concept not nutritional.

GMO experts are following the same line; not new more nutrient dense varieties – they have created GMO apples and potatoes that last longer.

Why Scientists are worried about the new GMO.
